We're here to raise the standard. Cakes designed for the exact moment someone decides they want something indulgent with their coffee and making that extra treat a worthwhile.

As we make everything by hand at our bakery, our cakes still have that comforting homemade look that customers can relate to, but the real treasure is the flavour.

Driven by curiosity, we've always gone for the flavour over the looks, as we believe the ingredients that we use at our bakery should do the talking. We use fewer, better ingredients. That's our thing.

What makes Exploding Bakery cakes sell

It's all about a combination of small, practical decisions that all add up and that are built for real café service

Our cakes are designed to perform in a busy environment, not just in a photoshoot. It's important for our cakes to slice cleanly and hold their texture throughout the day. They should still taste great after a few days in the fridge.

Flavours people come back for

We keep things recognisable but push them just enough. We like to add our own twist on the classic recipes to lift the flavours even further. We're so into it that we've even written two cake recipe books: Bake it, Slice it, Eat it and Bake It Easy.

We want customers to go: 'I've had a brownie before but never this good', or 'I've never had a Carrot Cake like this before'. We're a bit obnoxious like this.

Ingredient quality that holds up

If we could, we'd be shouting about our ingredients every single day. The stuff we use at the bakery is what differentiates us from other wholesale bakeries.

We never cut corners when it comes to flavour. We put integrity in every slice of cake as it matters to us what goes in it.

We're proud to be using:

• Organic, British grown Shipton Mill flour
Luker chocolate - Colombian single origin & slavery free chocolate that also focuses on bio-diversity friendly farming methods
• West Country butter - Locally sourced and happy cows
St. Ewe free range eggs

You will never find palm oil or unfamiliar E-numbers in our cakes.

The ethical side of things at Exploding Bakery

This is where we differ from a lot of wholesale suppliers. We do not treat sustainability and ethics as a marketing add on. It is built into how we operate.

1% for the Planet

We are proud members of 1% for the Planet, which means we commit to donating a portion of our annual revenue to environmental causes.

This includes supporting organisations like Surfers Against Sewage, who work to protect coastlines and improve water quality across the UK. For us, this is not a one off campaign. It is an ongoing commitment.

We've also been working with Luker chocolate for years to support education and development in cocoa growing regions, helping create a more sustainable and fair supply chain. It means the chocolate in our cakes is not just high quality. It is sourced with care.

Giving back locally

We also support our local community by donating cakes to FareShare and FoodCycle,  charities aiming to tackle food poverty. Cake is not just about selling. It is about sharing.

Responsible sourcing

Across the bakery we focus on:

  • No palm oil
  • No plastic
  • Recyclable packaging
  • High quality, responsibly sourced ingredients
  • Working with suppliers who align with our values

Delivery that works for cafés

This is where a lot of suppliers fall down. You can have the best cake in the world, but if it turns up late or in poor condition, it does not matter.

Delivery schedule

We dispatch wholesale orders Monday to Friday across mainland UK.

Here's how our delivery works:

Choose your preferred delivery day from the delivery calendar at checkout

  • Order by 2pm for next working day dispatch
  • DPD next day delivery as standard
  • Cakes arrive Tuesday to Saturday depending on dispatch day
  • There is an additional Saturday delivery charge
  • When ordering directly from us, cakes will be sent frozen and will arrive ambient, meaning they will be ready to serve straight away

Should you have a problem with your delivery, get in touch:info@example.com and we will help you out.

If you are using one of our suppliers, please check how the cake is delivered as often they will arrive frozen, making it ideal for storing it for longer.

Shelf life once delivered

Our cakes are designed for real working conditions.

Typical guidance:

• Brownies and blondies: 5 to 7 days chilled
• Traybakes: 3 to 5 days chilled
• Loaf cakes: 3 to 5 days chilled

Pricing that makes sense

We keep pricing simple, transparent and practical so you can quickly understand your margins.

Our prices vary slightly by product, but as a guide:

• Brownies and blondies work out at a strong cost per slice when portioned correctly and are most commonly pre-marked to 16 slices
• Traybakes offer excellent margin due to easy portion control and serve 16-18 slices
• Loaf cakes provide versatility (like our Banana Bread but toasted) and consistent yield with minimal waste

You are not paying for unnecessary extras. You are paying for cakes that sell through.

Minimum order and delivery threshold

• We have no minimum order. Order as little or as much as you like, as often as you need.
• Free delivery is available on all orders over £100
• We offer an automatic 10% discount on all orders over £160

This gives you flexibility without locking you into huge commitments.

First order offer

We offer free samples and a first order incentive for new wholesale customers because we understand how important it is for you to try us out before fully committing. It is the easiest way to see the difference in real time and suss out which cakes work for your customer needs.

Free Extras

We offer a free POS pack to all 1st time order customers and free cake papers and cake ingredient cards at any time - just add them to your basket when you place your next order. The Free POS pack will be sent by our team as a welcome package.
