Cake, Community & Fighting Food Waste: World Food Day with FoodCycle
It’s World Food Day on 16th October, and we’re teaming up with our friends at FoodCycle to shout a little louder about something we care deeply about: food that doesn’t get wasted, and people that don’t get left behind.

We’re not fans of waste. We minimise as much waste as possible here at Exploding Bakery. That is why we also respect companies that do the same.
FoodCycle are doing the proper work: turning surplus supermarket food into nutritious, community meals for anyone who needs them. It’s about filling bellies, tackling loneliness, and making something wonderful from what would otherwise end up in the bin. That’s the kind of kitchen magic we can get behind.

Why We’re Involved (and Always Will Be)
We’re constantly looking for ways to make what we do more sustainable. So it’s a no-brainer to support FoodCycle whenever we can , whether that’s through donating our cakes at the local Exeter project, or rustling up limited-edition bakes like our Christmas Collaboration Brownie, where every one sold helped fund a three-course meal for someone who needed it.
This time round? We’re getting involved in FoodCycle’s World Food Day Raffle, and throwing in 3 Straight Up Brownie Traybakes as prizes. Ideal for sharing and celebrating good cake with your favourite people.
Here’s a glimpse of what else is up for grabs:
- £200 voucher for any Gordon Ramsay Academy cooking class
- £150 voucher for Hawksmoor restaurants
- 4 tickets for County Championship Cricket / One Day Cup match at The Oval in 2026*
- Manchester United Football Signed Pennant
- 2 tickets to Ascot Spring Family Raceday in the King Edward VII Enclosure on Sunday 29th March
- Tastesmiths six meal kit bundle
And so much more!

Food for People, Not Landfill
We’re in the business of making cake that does more than just sit on a counter and partnering with FoodCycle means those values go even further.
Food should nourish people, not rot in skips.
Cake should be shared.
And everyone deserves to eat well.
So buy a ticket, win a treat, and help keep the good stuff flowing.
