We’ve officially sold our Exeter café to Portal Pizza. This space has been such a big part of our story. From early mornings filled with the smell of freshly ground coffee, to busy Saturdays, familiar faces who have become friends, and moments of chaos that somehow always turned into good memories, Exeter has given us a lot and we’ll always remember that this little shop was the birthplace of our bakery.

The decision to sell wasn’t an easy one. This café was built with care, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose. What made the decision feel right was how closely aligned we are with Portal Pizza. We share values around quality, originality, and doing things properly rather than quickly. Both of our businesses are rooted in community, independent thinking, and a genuine love of flavour in food.

Importantly, much of what people love about the café will continue. Portal Pizza will keep using the same coffee from Triple Co, served by the same brilliant baristas, on the same equipment. They’ll also inherit our supply of Exeter grown regenerative wheat from the South West Grain Network, that is stone ground by Cann Mills. They will continue working with the same excellent suppliers, cooking with organic, seasonal vegetables grown locally by Shillingford and Mosshayne. And yes, you’ll still find Exploding Bakery cakes on the counter, just as you always have.

We’re incredibly grateful to our team, past and present, who poured their hearts into this place, and to everyone who walked through the doors and supported us along the way. You helped make the Exploding Bakery what it is today.

This isn’t a goodbye to what we stand for. It’s a handover built on shared values, trust, and continuity. We’re proud of what we created, thankful for the journey, and genuinely excited to see what comes next for you all with Portal Pizza serving up the future of good times.
