Creative and Environmentally Conscious Companies In The South West
Here’s a quick shoutout to some businesses we think are pretty cool and doing their bit for the planet. This time, we’re showing love to our South West neighbours because we think it's important to give support to folks close to home. And we are all proud members of 1% For The Planet organisation, donating 1% of our yearly revenue towards important environmental causes.
Let's take a jaunt down to Cornwall. We go there a lot, and no, it’s not just for the pasties or the old fudge shops. There’s way more happening. Cornwall’s got a buzzing scene full of creative, independent businesses doing things their way.
First up, we’ve got Yallah Coffee. Their brews are exactly what good coffee should taste like. But what we really love is their approach—fair trade, full traceability, and they even sail some of their beans in from Colombia to cut down on environmental impact. That’s commitment.
Next, we stumbled across Skinflint, a lighting company that’s all about breathing new life into vintage industrial lights. They’re serious about cutting waste, and they’ve nailed that circular economy vibe. Plus, like us, they back Surfers Against Sewage through 1% For The Planet.
And for something a little quirky, we’ve fallen for Block. We love the tall candle holders and the glass watering can. Check them out if you’re into simple but striking design.
Cornwall’s definitely got more to offer than cream teas!
Down here in Devon we have companies doing equally exciting stuff.
Our old friend Dave at Crankhouse Coffee is a wizard at roasting, brewing, and elevating coffee to new heights. We go way back to when he worked with us at our Exeter café. Crankhouse is all about supporting the science that drives positive change in the coffee industry, taking actions to protect the environment.
Over in South Hams, Hattiers Rum isn’t just good rum—it’s rum with a purpose, championing transparency and sustainability. And then there’s Wild + Sea—think of hand thrown pottery and eco-friendly candles that bring a breath of nature into your home.
The Southwest isn’t just about stunning coastlines—it’s home to some of the most forward-thinking, environmentally-conscious businesses. From fair-trade coffee to vintage lighting repurposed to cut down on waste, these companies are proving that you can do good while doing business.
